Remove pencil and wrench quick editing icons from Blogger

There is an easy way to remove pencil and wrench quick editing icons from Blogger using CSS, check out this post.

In blogger, you may notice some strange icons. One is a pencil icon at the bottom of every post (which is used to edit posts) and another one is a screwdriver and wrench icon at the bottom-right of every gadget (which is used to edit gadgets).

Indeed, these quick edit icons are useful. You can edit your posts or your blog widgets (gadgets) in one click. They do mess up the looks a little bit, but only for your eyes. Nobody else can see those icons (either the pencil, or the screwdriver/wrench). Once you are logged out and refresh the page, you won't see those icons. But, if they are unnecessary to you, there's a way to remove them.

Remove Pencil icon (for editing posts)

1. Go to Blogger Dashboard > Settings > Basic.
2. On the Basic tab, select 'No' on the "Show Quick Editing on your Blog?" section.
3. Save the settings.

Remove wrench (screwdriver) (for editing gadgets)

This is a bit complicated...

As a precautionary step, download your template so that you have an emergency backup if in case you make any errors.

1. Go to Blogger Dashboard > Design > Edit HTML and check the "Expand Widget Templates" option.
2. Press CTRL+F to find the code which looks like

<b:include name='quickedit'/>

3. Delete that line of code.
4. If you have more gadgets, then you have to remove more lines.
5. For example, if you have three gadgets in your blog, then you have to find that code three times and remove it.
6. Preview your template and if everything works fine, then save it.

You will never see the "annoying" screwdriver and wrench icons again.
